Catching up

So it’s been a bit since I’ve posted anything on the blog and I’m finally getting around to catching up with some of the paintings I’ve done since “Rainbow Sunday.” To be honest, I’ve struggled with motivation and depression over the last couple of months and it really slows me down. Doing better now that I’m making progress on some of the home projects like clearing the driveway of leaves (it’s already covered again) and working on a deck for my mother-in-law. Plenty of other projects along those lines to keep me busy a while, but I’m hoping that with colder weather it might have me doing more indoor stuff like working on my paintings.

I’ve got a craft fair coming up a week from Saturday where I’ll put up my art for sale for the first time at a fair. I’m getting excited about seeing how people respond to my artwork. At this point I’m hoping for plenty of feedback to see what people think of my stuff. I had hoped to have a lot more new paintings complete by now, but at this point I’m just glad I’ve gotten anything done between work and everything else going on.

Most of the paintings below and many more will be up for sale at Westfield’s Winter Wonderland Bazaar & Craft Fair in Danielson, CT on Nov 11th. Anyway, on to the art I’ve been too lazy to post here:

Frozen (8×10 Acrylic on canvas) – It wasn’t a particularly cold day when I painted this, but the weather up here in New England certainly seems to be headed that way this winter. I always struggle finishing off a painting like this as I had a full mountain range in place before I painted the trees in the front.

Horizons (8×10 Acrylic on canvas) – This painting was a chance for warmer thoughts and gave me a chance to play around with clouds and water. I find myself adding clouds a lot lately as I love playing around with the mix of colors throughout the painting.

Snowbound (8×10 Acrylic on canvas) – I always love painting mountains and this was one of the few I’ve done on the smaller canvas. I’m really getting comfortable working at this scale and my hope is that it will help me work through more details on some of my larger paintings. I especially appreciate trying something a little different and being surprised in how it can keep me growing as an artist.

Bright Sky (8×10 Acrylic on canvas)- I can’t avoid letting my thoughts come through in the colors as I paint. The ground being so much darker gave me a feel of late evening with a bright sunset that is hiding just behind the hill.

Lost (8×10 Acrylic on canvas)- I used this one as an opportunity to stretch myself and do something out of the norm. I was in a down time mentally and this helped me express my frustration with everything I was dealing with. It represents the chaos in the storm of things that just kept going wrong for me.

Found (8×10 Acrylic on canvas)- Not my normal colorful expression, this one still showed my downward thoughts. I titled this one found as I felt like even in the darker colors I was finding my way through the chaos. Donna stole this one for her study after I set it out to dry. I don’t think it will make it’s way to the show.

Purple Snow (16×20 Acrylic on canvas)- This one was magical for me and despite the darker colors it was from when I was feeling much more up beat. The colorful snowy mountains always makes me think of a comfy cabin by the fire. The fence half buried in the snow was a look-back for me of a painting I loved that my parents had in our den when I was growing up.

Evening stroll (12×16 Acrylic on canvas)- This one really caught me in an upbeat mood. Between the sky, the mountains, and the waterfall I was bringing some of my favorite things together.
