Day 23

So back on June 7th of this year I had been painting a bit more than I had in a long time. I’ve been thinking about the various hobbies I have and made a decision. My thought was to take my painting more seriously and attempt a 30 days of art in which I create a painting every day for 30 days. I am proud to say that today is day 23 and I’ve created a total of 24 paintings in that time frame!

The idea in my head was that by focusing on painting for 30 days I could accomplish two things. I would improve my painting skills and I might better define my “voice” in my painting style. As for improving – that’s a life long thing. This will simply speed it up as it might typically take me years to knock out 30 paintings. For my voice… I think if you take a look at what I’ve done you can tell that I’ve made good progress there as well.

What surprised me more than anything else is the effortless way I’ve been able to keep up with it. Not that it doesn’t take effort! No, it’s just that it’s so relaxing mentally that if anything else I find myself wanting to do another painting when I have free time. Kind of a surprise for me when you consider I’m spending at minimum of an hour on these paintings (much more for the bigger ones.)

Now once I’m done with the 30 days my intent is to keep up with the effort as much as I can, but to spend more time on individual paintings rather than rushing to complete it within a single sitting. Take a look at what I’ve created so far this month and feel free to give me some feedback. Don’t forget to check back often to see my latest project!
